Girvan Community Flag Project

The Girvan Community Flag has been chosen from 184 designs submitted in a competition run by Girvan Arts Festival, and was revealed on the 2nd of August at a ceremony at Stumpy corner. The Flag was delivered to Girvan Harbour by the Girvan Lifeboat at 11am and handed over to South Ayrshire Councillor Alec Clark. The Flag was marched, accompanied by the newly reformed Girvan Pipe Band to Stumpy, where the ceremony took place to hand the flag to the people of Girvan. After the winning flag design was revealed, the warrant was read by Phillip Tibbets, the Lyon Court’s representative who has overseen the project, and it was passed over to the leader of Girvan Community Council, Rhona Walker, and hoisted on the flagpole next to Stumpy Tower.

The first Prize was handed to Winter Ingram of Sacred Heart Primary, who designed the winning flag.

The flag design is a free, public symbol for all to use at will. The Tourist Information Point has flags available for purchase.

The project was led by The Girvan Arts Festival in partnership with Girvan Academy, Girvan Primary, Sacred Heart Primary, Invergarven School, Go Girvan, The Girvan Town Team, Girvan Youth Trust, Glendoune Community Association, Thriving Communities, The Girvan Tourist Information Point, Girvan Community Council, Girvan Lifeboat crew and South Ayrshire Council.

This project was jointly funded by the Girvan Arts Festival, Girvan Community Council, the Girvan Town Team and the National Lottery Community fund.
