Look Out For
- Lowland Gathering
The annual Lowland Gathering, a wonderful celebration of traditional Scottish music, dance and sport, along with plenty of fun for the kids and all the family, always takes place on the first weekend in June. Along with the magnificent pipe bands, you can enjoy catching the colour and movement of the highland dancers and the 'heavy events' - the stone put, the hammer throw, and the weight throw. - Girvan FC Walking Football Club will be having a mini-tournament at the Lowland Gathering to demonstrate the health benefits of active sport in older men and women.
- And you can take a ride along the promenade on a selection of bikes, at Biosphere Bikes. You'll find them at the harbour end of the promenade most weekends in summer.
- Girvan Folk Festival
Popular on the folk music circuit, the multi-venue festival attracts a large number of musicians and visitors to Girvan in early May. From wee gatherings of a few music-makers in local hostelries and the cracking performers who play the Community Garden, to the headline acts in the larger venues, there is something for everyone with an ear for a tune, and a bit of craic thrown in. - Tattie Fest
Keep an eye out for this cracking wee festival in the Community Garden, rejoicing in the humble Ayrshire potato. With lots of fun and games, and plenty to taste and smell, it is a great day out for all the family. - The Harbour Gala
Celebrating and raising funds for the local RNLI lifeboat station, the centrepiece of the event is the lifeboat itself, and her crew. Along with demonstrations of the boat's capabilities, there's plenty other things going on around the harbour, from stalls to displays by all the emergency services, to fun rides for the kids, hot dogs, burgers and ice cream, and live music to cater for the large crowds that flock to Girvan for this event. Usually the first weekend in August. - Ballantrae Food Festival
On the same weekend as the Girvan Arts Festival this year, why not combine a visit to Girvan and Ballantrae to sample both wonderful events. From top class 'foodie' speakers, to multitude of tasting opportunities with live music thrown in, the Ballantrae Food Festival attracts large crowds to this historic village at the southernmost end of Ayrshire.
