Our choice of festival film this year was inspired by our closing event, a performance of a selection of opera and musical theatre pieces by the Scots Opera Project.

Starring Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson, Phantom of the Opera is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage musical of the same name.

A young soprano becomes the obsession of a disfigured and murderous musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opéra House. Part horror, part love story, it will whet the appetite for Sunday’s operatic performance.

A solid retelling of the musical, giving Webber’s wonderful music a chance to shine for a wider audience than they ever have before.
