The 2nd Girvan Arts Festival
Comedy Night
It was another brilliant night Upstairs at the harbour Bar as four fantastic comedians had a packed audience in stitches with two hours of non-stop comedy. Unfortunately, Joe Heenan and Cal Halbert had to pull out, but Jeannie Jones and John “Obie” O’Brien were brilliant replacements.
Compere Jeannie Jones had done her homework on Girvan by social media, which was hilarious, as well as spotting a few ageing rockers at a table next to the stage – who knew that Fleetwood Mac had retired to Girvan?
The first act she introduced was Richard Pulsford who gave us a whirlwind set of quickfire puns and jokes – it wasn’t surprising that he was a former UK pun champion.
Richard the 1st lookalike Mikey Motion broke the ice with some belly dancing (yes, really) but had everyone shaking with laughter with tales of his wilder days and his granny.
Just when we thought we couldn’t laugh any harder, John “Obie” O’Brien was the headline act that reduced most in the audience to tears with comparisons of what a good night out entailed when he, and most of the audience, frankly, were young.

Many thanks to Gordon for hosting us Upstairs at the Harbour Bar and for the ladies behind the bar, friendly and efficient as always. Keep an eye out for some fantastic events coming soon at this venue, and for the Girvan Arts Festival main weekend in June.
A wonderful night, an amazing audience and brilliant performers.
Thanks to Doreen, Cath and Preston for the photos.
