Who remembers Girvan’s Fifth Dimension?

For those who don’t, it was a psychedelic architectural installation located on the seafront designed by London-based artist Keith Albarn (whose son Damon is the frontman of Blur).

It was a giant multi-coloured, fibreglass structure consisting of 17 domed chambers linked by corridors.

Installed in May 1969 with a budget of £10,000, the “fun palace” was intended to stimulate psychedelic sensory experiences through strobe lights, eerie sounds, and varied textures.

The structure remained in place until 1974, when it was destroyed by a storm and consigned to landfill.

Now, Adventure Carrick and Girvan Arts Festival have commissioned Scottish Artist Kate Robertson to do an installation at this year’s festival to celebrate Girvan’s beach front of the 1960s and the success of ACE’s bandstand project in getting the go-ahead to restore another icon from that period.

Come along for a multisensory experience and to have a go at recreating the 5th Dimension (in a slightly smaller format)
